DTT Channel Changes On The Way
29th September 2005
Owing to the growth in the number of channels on the digital terrestrial television (DTT) platform, channel numbers are changing on 18th October 2005. The change is being coordinated by The Digital Network, an industry body that includes the operators of all the digital terrestrial multiplexes.
It introduces three figure channel numbers in order to accommodate the growing number of television channels being added to the DTT platform now and in the future. It has also offered the opportunity to group together channels targeted at similar audiences.
Customers will need to initiate a receiver re-scan when this change occurs.
The changes will be publicised and supported by TDN as follows:
- Call centre support (BBC, Freeview)
- Website support (broadcasters and any others who care to)
- Text pages will carry info
- Red button applications will be used to carry an instruction to 'rescan now' or some such wording
- Possibly MHEG pop up messages on screen
- Looking also at Channels that have 'downtime' placing info on those channels (eg BBC4)
If any of our customers have any questions or difficulty with the change over, please do not hesitate to give Wight Aerials a call - 852968
